Season’s Greetings from the Sawyers
In January, we returned to Egypt for the winter
after a year’s absence. We were pleased that most travel
restrictions were lifted in time for a long-planned visit there by
Terry and Amy.
We had set up a two-week tour including many local sights of Cairo plus a five-day excursion some 400 miles south into the Valley of the Kings and other notable tombs and monuments. (Most of the trip is well documented at www.sawyertravel.blogspot.com)
Shortly after returning home in April, we boarded a flight to Phoenix, where we photographed our 50th State Capitol, completing a photo-journey begun in Austin Texas in early 1971. (photos available here.)
Late in the summer, our congressman began a program to award a small “Vietnam War Veteran” lapel button to interested and eligible veterans. This was an interesting and appreciated gesture by the dozen or so local old men who attended the brief ceremony at Bloomington City Hall.
Linda’s highlight of the year was another excursion with the “traveling ladies.” They settled on Turkey as this year’s destination. While Linda had visited the country previously, she had never been to the country’s eastern region. She rates the climb to the top of Mt. Nemrut and crossing the Euphrates River among the highlights of her extensive travel memories.
We are looking forward to our return to Cairo, Egypt, shortly after the first of the new year.
