The Kolkowsky Family Moves to Sturgeon Lake
In 1895, Frank and Francis Kolkowsky and their four young children moved to Windemere Township near the small town of Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota. Frank filed a homestead claim on 80 acres of land and began construction of a house where the family would live for the next fourteen years. In 1903, they purchased an adjacent 40 acre parcel. The family lived here until 1909 when they joined many others migrating to the west and moved to Portland, Oregon. By that time, there were nine children in the family ranging in age from 19-year old Walt to the infant, Gladys (my mother.)
